Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial live updates: Depp says ‘it all went weird’ for him after ‘Pirates’ success
Johnny Depp told the jury “it all went weird” after “Pirates of the Caribbean” became a global hit, forcing him to change his daily routines and hire extra security.
Depp said he couldn’t take his kids to the park like he used to, and that stalkers would try to climb the gates of his house — including one who wore a Jack Sparrow costume.
The Disney franchise started in 2003 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” and has since grossed $4.5 billion worldwide.
FAIRFAX, Va — Amber Heard stared straight at ex-husband Johnny Depp as he took the stand in their bombshell defamation trial.
The “Aquaman” star, who wore a cream blouse with her wavy blonde hair in a ponytail, looked steely as Depp recounted his tumultuous childhood to the jury.
Australian Depp fan Jacinda Gillepsie, who travelled from down under to watch him testify, had tears in her eyes as her favorite movie star addressed the jury.
Court attendees sat griped to the three-time Oscar nominee’s words, and many of them sniffled as he spoke. More than 150,000 people were also watching a livestream of his testimony on YouTube.
Security seemed beefed up on Tuesday after three people were booted from court last week, with nearly a dozen Fairfax County sheriff’s deputies stationed outside the courtroom before Depp testified.
Johnny Depp told the jury he used to wonder as a young boy why his father didn’t leave his abusive mother. “He is a good man,” Depp said of his dad. “He apologized to me for having gone through the whipping — the belt.”
